Our client is a family run business with nearly 20 years’ experience of adapting motor vehicles for drivers and passengers with disabilities. In recent years they have expanded into the light commercial vehicle industry to fit air suspension and levelling systems to vehicles such as Motorhomes, Ambulances and Wheelchair Accessible Vehicles.

Due to significant growth they are currently seeking a Workshop Manager to join and manage their busy engineering team.

Job Overview

Responsible for the day to day safe and efficient running of the workshop. You will be managing a small team of highly skilled engineers and a workshop controller, this role requires a manager able to split their time effectively between managing the team and carrying out every day work on vehicles. 

Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Day to day running of the workshop, ensuring scheduled work is completed daily and any issues addressed promptly to have minimum customer impact 
  • Working closely with the engineers, carry out fittings whilst directly supporting the team and keeping own knowledge up to date 
  • Adhering and ensuring staff follow health and safety policies 
  • Investigating complaints and liaising with the office manager to ensure a response is given in a timely manner
  • Ensuring staff have the right skills and are up to date in all aspects of their training
  • Coaching and supporting staff on training needs
  • Supporting the development of an engaged, talented and high performing engineering team, nurturing an innovative and continuous improvement culture
  • Managing and reviewing consumables purchasing processes to ensure it is the best value for money
  • Working closely with the management team to identify areas in need of change and action accordingly
  • Implementing a strong work ethic and promoting customer excellence
  • Ensuring engineer’s weekly diary are scheduled in the most effective way based on individual’s skills and the job location
  • Overseeing all goods delivery to ensure it is logged accurately and matches the order; escalating any issues to the office manager promptly 
  • Ensuring optimum management of stock, including accurate and timely process of returns

The Person 

Someone who can positively engage the team, has good organisational skills, the ability to prioritise tasks effectively, to make decisions and get things done without supervision.

Problem solving approach to challenges is key to the success of this role, a real leader; someone who can drive results.

Customer service skills are essential as there is an element of customer facing interaction, ensuring the company is providing excellent service throughout the business. 

Desirable Skills

  • Have 5 years’ experience in a similar challenging engineering or service delivery role
  • Be safety conscious and familiar in the planning and execution of all H&S aspects
  • Have good Microsoft Office experience (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Calendars)
