You have just received the news you weren’t expecting following your interview..

You haven’t got the job!

What you do next will determine how quickly you recover and move on.

In my experience of facing rejection personally and from speaking to candidates who we have put forward for an interview it is important that you put the rejection into context. It is only a lost opportunity. I was rejected from one role only to be offered a great opportunity with a company that I feel was the catalyst to the following very successful ten year period in employment.

Use the disappointment as motivation to improve. What were the reasons, a lack of skills or qualifications? Use the disappointment to motivate you to attain those skills or qualifications.

Think of alternative ways to achieve that role. Look at similar companies within your industry and target them.

Because it was a no now, it is not a no forever. I interviewed somebody for a role once and they weren’t a right fit for that role, however, when a slightly different role came up, they were approached and became a great asset to the company and they have forged a very successful career at a senior level for themselves.
