Purchase Ledger Clerk

Barnsley (S74) | £26,000 + Bonus | Mon to Fri Office Hours | 25 Days Holiday Plus Bank Holidays

This is an ideal position for someone who enjoys working with numbers, communicating with suppliers, and taking ownership of their workload.

The Role

Reporting to the Financial Controller, you will play an important part in the day to day running of the centralised accounts function. Your work will support key financial processes and keep the Purchase Ledger running smoothly.

You will be responsible for:

  • Posting supplier invoices and credit notes
  • Matching invoices to goods received notes, quantities and values
  • Liaising with Purchasing and Admin teams to resolve discrepancies
  • Chasing purchase order documentation when required
  • Investigating price variances with suppliers
  • Posting and allocating cash payments
  • Preparing UK and EU payment runs and producing remittance advice
  • Reconciling supplier statements
  • Handling supplier queries regarding invoices and payments
  • Supporting month end processes and saving required reports
  • Assisting auditors with queries
  • Posting journal entries and managing petty cash reconciliations
  • Creating bank payments for approval
  • Answering incoming calls and providing cover for the Sales Ledger when required
  • Completing general administrative and finance support tasks as needed
  • You will also manage your own KPIs which will form part of your regular appraisal and development reviews.

About You

You will enjoy this role if you bring:

Previous Purchase Ledger experience

Good communication skills and confidence dealing with suppliers

Strong attention to detail and organised working habits

Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Solid IT skills including Microsoft Excel

A positive attitude and a willingness to learn and help others
